Mega Bog

“FREAKY DAWN”

Cassette Wizards of the Ghost

Female Fronted Indie Pop

Mega Bog is the second of many Pacific Northwest bands I intend to post. The pet project of Wizards of the Ghost mastermind and IJI drummer Erin Birgy, Mega Bog’s reverbed out psych pop has one of those sounds that seems to have come from the past… but it’s an alternate past that was a lot cooler than the real one. There’s plenty of space on this record. It flows in and out of ethereal noise and catchy pop numbers so seamlessly that its hard to tell where one song ends and another begins, but all the time the atmosphere is right. The sparse bits always set the stage for an explosion of catchy basslines, pounding drums, and spring reverb soaked guitars. Knowing how short the attention span of the average internet user is, it’s hard to post a single track from this album. None of these songs kick directly into the hooky melodies that Birgy has hidden deep within the record…but the one that comes closest is Weird Rams on Snow Lake. If you’re going to try and judge this album on one track, that’s probably the one that kicks in the earliest and runs the full gamut of noise, abstract saxaphone, catchy pop hooks, and spring reverb that this record has to offer….but I’d suggest that you don’t try to judge this record on just one track. This record is best enjoyed on a rainy day, in your bed, washing over you in it’s entirety…or maybe thats just me.
