Your Pest Band
“Ya Ya Ya”
Punk/Garage
Your Pest Band (yes, band is part of the name) hail from the island nation of Japan, but other than their accents there’s not too much Japanese content here. In fact, they’re doing some decidedly American music. They mix garage rock’s blues based riffs with the energy and melody of punk favorites like Mr. T Experience and Descendents. I saw them live last week and I was pretty blown away. They rocked about as hard as anyone I’ve seen recently, practically fighting their instruments for their entire half hour set. YPB were only the second band on the show but when they finished the crowd pretty much demanded an encore. As a record Ya Ya Ya sticks out to me because the sounds have enough variation to be interesting, while remaining cohesive enough to make sense. From Doo Wop chord progression of Game of Life to the thrashing punk of DIY SGI to the stoner metal style intro to The Bomb In My Life, Your Pest Band covers some ground, and they do it gracefully.
